Now that I’m doing internet video production in-house at Absolute Perfection, Inc. in Sykesville, MD, I’m able to make web videos whenever an interesting car comes through the shop.
These videos have increased traffic to each division’s website, increased engagement on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, and other social media, and have increased sales drastically, in every division (Click here to see statistics on ROI).
At the end of January, a customer brought a customized, fully-loaded 2012 Mercedes Benz AMG S-63 into the shop to get paint protection film and window tint installed. It was a beautiful car, so I took the opportunity to film Tim Cooke, Absolute Perfection’s COO, tinting the windows, and it gave us a great marketing video for our Automotive Tint Division.
This video was made to be embedded directly onto Absolute Perfection’s Automotive Window Tinting website, and posted on Absolute Perfection’s Facebook Fan Page. It was targeted to an audience of young car enthusiasts, a very different group of people than we targeted with the corporate profile we made for our window film division, which led us to make very different stylistic choices in music and editing.
Tinted windows have lots of practical benefits (heat reduction, preventing sun damage, improving visibility), but in this video we’re emphasizing the aesthetic value of window tint.
It looks cool to have tinted windows, so that’s what we tried to capture.
We knew exactly what web pages we were going to embed this video on, and knew that it was going to be surrounded by descriptions of the product. So, we knew it would be unnecessary to add a narrative explaining the feature and advantages of window tint.
This allowed us to focus on creating an emotional impact, and then keeping the video as concise as possible. We wanted to communicate the aesthetic value of having window tint, without boring our audience. Our goal was to get them excited so that they would then want to go in depth and read more.
Use internet video production in combination with the other elements of your online marketing strategy to maximize your efforts. In this case, we used a short, exciting video with high production value and kinetic editing to engage our fans and followers, and then embedded these videos amongst in-depth descriptions of our products. Using this kind of coordinated approach helps you to avoid redundancy and increase the power of each element in your strategy.
